Causes of Weak Urine Stream in Males and Remedies of Treatment

Weak urine stream does not belong to the physiological norm of an organism, especially if this phenomenon lasts for some time and is accompanied by the unpleasant strong odor of urine, pain in urethra, discharge of various scope and consistency, elevated temperature. Considering possible causes, it is the urologist who treats the disease (in certain clinical cases, with the involvement of neurologist).

The Possible Causes of Weak Urine Stream

Changes in the pressure of urine are peculiar to men of middle and old age, which is accounted for by functional and hormonal processes in the body.  Among the young ones, the case is characteristic of those practicing casual sex which leads to the development of prostatitis of infectious origin.

The defining value here is the condition of prostate. The prostate gland is located around the urethra, therefore inflammation which emerged in its tissue can affect this organ as well. Most commonly the case of weak urine stream occurs owing to the development of benign tumor of prostate gland – adenoma. As a result, it has a pressing effect on the urethra, which significantly narrows it, thus causing a weak stream when urinating.

This phenomenon accompanies the following diseases:

  • weak urine streammalignant and benign growths of prostate gland;
  • disorders of metabolic processes in the body: in diabetes a nervous regulation of both the bladder and the sphincter (that controls the stream of urine) is disordered;
  • sclerotic changes in the bladder;
  • genital infections: especially often the inflammatory narrowing of urethra is caused by gonorrhea and syphilis;
  • disorders of brain regulation.

The Underlying Diseases

To understand the causes of changes in quality of urination, one must know what the most frequently occurring disorders are.

Urethral Stenosis

The disorder is characterized by the narrowing of the internal lumen of urethra. Replacement of physiological, healthy tissue by the cicatricial one occurs for a number of reasons, the most common of which are:

  1. weak urine stream in mentrauma suffered, burns of urethra;
  2. inflammatory processes inside urethra, bladder, ureter;
  3. problems with the blood circulation inside tissues of urinary organs;
  4. cancerous tumors and the subsequent radiation therapy;
  5. unsuccessful surgical interventions of urological nature.

Urethral stenosis is accompanied by the splashing of urine (it may leak involuntarily), frequency of urination increases; after the process is complete a man still has the feeling of not emptied bladder. A pain syndrome takes place as well. In cases of severe form the pressure is nearly absent. There may be blood in urine, as well as in semen; the intensity of ejaculation reduces (which is not always the case, though).

Sometimes the urination is completely blocked. Considering the symptoms, the disorder resembles chronic prostatitis; that may result in misdiagnosis.

The inflammatory process appears in the tissues of prostate gland. Men of middle age are most prone to this pathology. The underlying factors are:

  • weak urine stream in the morningPresence of genital infections (chlamydia infection, trichomoniasis, ureaplasmosis, etc).
  • Hypothermia.
  • Acute or chronic inflammatory diseases of kidneys, bladder, ureters.
  • Reduced physical activity, long stay in a sitting position.
  • Decrease in the protective properties of an organism.
  • Hormonal imbalance.

Also, predisposing factors are prolonged periods of abstinence, stay in stressful environment, and congenital malformations of the prostate gland. The symptoms of disease, though similar to those of other urological diseases, have its own distinctive features: a pain syndrome extends to the perineum, groin and sacral area; the patient has fever; there is excessive sweating. Afterwards there occurs discharge from urethra, decrease of the quality of sexual life, the feeling of full bladder.

Men of middle and old age are apt to the development of benign tumor. The process of prostate increase remains unnoticed for a long time. This disease resembles the other maladies causing the problems with urination but differs in that a man has such difficulties at the end of urination.

Malignant Growths

The emergence of malignant growths is manifested by symptoms such as frequent need to urinate, lancinating pain, weak urine stream. When the spread of process takes place, a patient suffers pain in lower back and pubis; there is also blood in semen and urine.

Therapy is planned taking into account the root causes of the weakening of urine stream. If the disorder is caused by prostatitis, the urologist will prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs, prostate massage, physiotherapy, and antibiotics. When it is adenoma of prostate, medication is aimed at strengthening the immune system, improving the blood circulation in the tissues of prostate, reducing the swelling. It can be herbal extracts which are made in the form of rectal suppositories for ease of introduction and effectiveness of the actions.

If the pressure of urine was reduced due to the narrowing of the inner lumen of urethra, special measures are applied, including an extension or separation of abnormal area. Doctors reduce the degree of sensitivity before the procedure by employing anesthesia. If there is a cancerous tumor of bladder or prostate, the specialist will prescribe a hormonal therapy, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy, and consider the possibility of surgical intervention.

If a male has weak urine stream in the morning (as at any other time), it is undoubtedly a reason for the visit to the urologist. This will help to stop the pathological process at an early stage of its development.
